The Celluloid Society

About

Preserving the premium screen

The Celluloid Society is a Philadelphia-based programming collective devoted to showing older films as first-run experiences—not as background noise, but as events worth dressing for, traveling for, and discussing afterward.

Our aesthetic debt is to specialty reissue houses: authoritative copy, restoration credits, and marketing that respects the intelligence of the audience. Our organizational model follows the best repertory marathons: explicit schedules, transparent ticket tiers, and program notes you can trust when planning your weekend.

We work with historic venues, archives, and fellow societies to secure 35mm prints and supervised digital restorations. When we announce a series, you will always know the format, the venue, and what your ticket includes.

Programming pillars

  • Restoration

4K and 35mm presentations with context on source materials.

  • Retrospective

Director and movement surveys built for repeated viewing.

  • Marathon

Long-form programming with lobby culture intact.
